Porsche Presents Wireless Charging Technology For Electric Cars, Debuts At Cayenne Electric 2025

JAKARTA Are you interested in having an electric car that can be charged without cables?

Porsche has again broken the boundaries of innovation in the automotive world by introducing wireless charging technology or Porsche Wireless Charging for electric cars. This technology is the first in the world to reach the mass production stage with a power of 11 kW, equivalent to conventional air conditioning chargers.

Porsche chose the IAA Mobility event in Munich which took place from September 9-14 to showcase the prototype that uses this cutting-edge technology.

This wireless charging system is designed to provide maximum convenience for electric car users. With the concept of "one-box", the system only consists of a base plate installed in the parking area, either in the garage, carport, or in the open area. Users simply park the car on top of the plate, and the energy will flow automatically.

The ease of use, daily practicality, and charging infrastructure are still a determining factor in the acceptance of electric mobility. We are proud that inductive charging will soon be available on the Porsche production line. Charging electric cars at home is never this easy," said Porsche Development Council Member Dr. Michael Steiner, in the manufacturing media room today.

Cayenne Electric Becomes Pioneer

The first model to be equipped with this technology is the latest generation Porsche Cayenne Electric. This car is planned to be launched by the end of 2025. Consumers can order Cayenne Electric with Porsche Wireless Charging pre-installation as an additional option.

The charging base plate, which measures 117 x 78 x 6 cm and weighs 50 kg, can be installed with the help of a Porsche Installation Service. On the side of the car, the receiving unit is placed at the bottom of the body, protected from collisions and weather. The system is also equipped with motion sensors and detection of foreign objects, which will stop the charging process automatically if there are objects or living things between cars and plates.

This charging is fully integrated with the My Porsche application, allowing users to track the charging process and authenticate vehicles. Parking aid features such as Surround View also make it easier for drivers to position the car in a precise manner on the plate.

Smart And Safe Technology

The principle of wireless charging work is similar to that used in electric smartphones or brushes, namely through energy transfer using a magnetic field. A coil emitting inside the base plate produces a magnetic field, which then produces an electric current in the receiver coil under the car. The system uses ultra-wideband technology to ensure optimal parking positions before the charging process starts.

In addition, this basic plate is designed to be weather resistant and has been extensively tested, including by TryptoV S\"ud, to ensure its safety and resilience. The system has also obtained CE and UL certifications, which ensure compliance with security and environmental standards in Europe and the US.

To add to the appeal at IAA Mobility, Porsche showcased the prototype Cayenne Electric with an innovative coating of paint that could turn on (fluorescent). The paint consists of 25 thin layers that can emit light when electrified, creating dynamic visual effects designed by the Style Porsche team.

The initial release of the Porsche Wireless Charging system will begin in Europe in 2026, and will follow in other global markets. With this efficient wireless charging capability of up to 90 percent, Porsche demonstrates its commitment to making the transition to electric cars easier and more comfortable for its users.
