Roblox Tightens Age Verification For All Players Accessing Communication Features

JAKARTA - Roblox announced its plans to expand age estimates for all Roblox users who access communication features on their platform by the end of this year.

By combining facial age estimation technology, ID age verification, and verified parental consent, this age verification process will be more accurate than just relying on what someone types when creating an account.

We take this step as part of our long-term vision as a platform for all ages. We hope this step sets the standards that game platforms, social media and other communications will follow," Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman said in his official announcement.

The company is also rolling out a new system designed to limit communication between adults and minors, unless they know each other in the real world.

Since January 2025, Roblox has claimed to have launched more than 100 security initiatives, including new tools for age-based communications such as Trusted Connections, Roblox Sentinel AI system of sources that detect signs of danger to children' and continued refinement of voice and text filters.

"We have also launched a new technology designed to detect servers where many users break our rules in an experience that is actually harmless, and disable it," he added.

Currently, Kaufman said his team is perfecting the company's avatar detection model, in order to scan these scenes and moderate avatars that violate the rules.

Roblox also tightened experience guidelines, raised the age limit for limited content from 17 to 18 years, and banned private space in social experience.

There is also a parental control feature, so that families can adjust the default settings according to what they feel is best for their children.

"We will continue to build platforms where users of all ages can explore, be creative, and share in age-appropriate ways," Kaufman concluded.
