Tears Broke Out At The Ethics Session, Kompol Cosmas Fired: I Only Carry Out My Duties
JAKARTA - Commander of the Battalion (Danyon) Regiment IV of the Brimob Corps (Korbrimob) of the National Police, Kompol Cosmas K Gae was sanctioned with Disrespectful Dismissal (PTDH) based on the results of the Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) trial. This is because it is considered to have acted unprofessionally in securing the demonstrations.
Kompol Cosmas K Gae is one of the seven Brimob members who were involved in the prosecution case against Affan Kurniawan to death.
"In administrative sanctions, Disrespectfully Dismissal," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko reading out the court verdict, Wednesday, September 3, evening.
Not only that, the administrative sanctions that were also imposed on Kompol Kosmas K Gae were special placements (patsus) in the special room of the Provos Bureau of the Propam Polri for six days.
The special placement sanctions given were also said to have been carried out by Kompol Kosmas K Gae
"Administrative sanctions in the form of placement in a special place for 6 days from August 29 to September 3, 2025," said Trunoyudo.
In the case of Affan Kurniawan's collision to death, Kompol Kosmas was one of two members of the Brimob Polda Metro Jaya who were suspected of committing serious violations.
When the incident occurred, Kompol Kosmas was in the front passenger seat or next to the driver.
Responding to the decision, Kompol Cosmas stated that there was no intention at all to make mistakes that were categorized as serious violations.
"I really only carry out my duties and responsibilities according to the institution's orders and orders of the commander in totality to maintain public security and the safety of all members that I represent, although also with such great risks," said Cosmas during a trial at the National Crime Coordinating Center (TNCC) Polri Building.
In fact, in her statement, Cosmas did not hesitate to swear that her actions were merely carrying out her duties as a civil servant.
"With events or events not being intended, truly for God's sake. There is no intention of harming people, but vice versa," he said.
The Brimob member also said that he only found out about the tactical vehicle (rantis) he was traveling in and ran over Affan Kurniawan to death after the circulation of the video on social media.
The incident on August 28, 2025, evening, was called beyond his expectations. Because, when the incident happened, nothing was felt strange.
"We don't know at all at the time and incident. After the viral video incident, we found out after the next few hours through social media," he said.
Apart from this, Kompol Cosmas expressed his condolences to Affan Kurniawan's family who had to lose their family members and to the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and all members of the Bhayangkara Corps.
When apologizing, it was the voice of Brimob members who previously sounded dashing that began to shake. His eyes teary as if he couldn't help but cry.
"On this occasion I also want to express my deep sorrow to the victims of Affan jurniawan, as well as the extended family. Really beyond expectation," said Cosmas.
"And this opportunity I also apologize to the leadership of the National Police or Polri colleagues who are tasked with maintaining public safety. If possible, make colleagues or leaders of the National Police become jobs that sacrifice a lot of time and energy," he continued.
In fact, the water began to fall wetting the cheeks when confirming that his actions had no intention of anything. Just doing the state's job to maintain order.
"But it is not our intention and goal. Our goal is only to carry out our duties, the totality of our dedication to the state and nation to maintain order and safety," he said.
Regarding the dismissal decision that has been handed down, Kompol Cosmas K Gae said he could not take a stand for now. Police officers need time to think first.
