KPAI Regrets Many Students Detained At The Jakarta Metro Police, United With Adult Prisoners

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has asked the National Police to immediately release seven children detained at the North Jakarta Police (Jakut) in connection with their involvement in demonstrations in Jakarta.

"It hasn't been issued yet, we ask for help, because it's been 3x24 hours," said KPAI Commissioner Diyah Puspitarini, ANTARA, Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

He said the detention of the seven students had not been processed by law for more than 1x24 hours, so his party encouraged law enforcement officials to immediately return them to their respective parents.

"He said this was not a legal process, when I came to the BAP immediately, because his parents had been waiting a long time. They had to be returned," he said.

He conveyed that the next legal process could be carried out again after the prosecution process was carried out.

Diyah also said that KPAI, in this case regretted the steps taken by police officers who brought the students together with adult prisoners.

"And the most disappointing, they are in the same cell as adults," he said.

The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) said that at least around 700 students in several areas had been detained by the police

Based on data compiled from August 25 and 28, 2025, the involvement of students from junior high and high school students during demonstrations in various regions.

Where, as handled by Polda Metro Jaya (PMJ) recorded 196 children were arrested on August 25, and 190 children on the action on August 28.

The children aged 12 to 17 years came from Jakarta, Tangerang (Banten), and Bekasi (West Java).

Of the total children who were detained by the police, they have now been returned and sent home to their respective parents.
