Deactivated by the Corruption Eradication Commission, Novel Baswedan Turns Out to Be Handling Legal Mafia Cases

JAKARTA - Senior investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan was disabled after being ineligible in the National Insight Test (TWK) assessment.

This deactivation was carried out while he was investigating several cases, including the case of the legal mafia. "I'm handling a legal mafia case", Novel told reporters Wednesday, May 12.

He did not elaborate further on the legal mafia case in question, nor the status of the case whether it is still an investigation or an investigation.

However, a similar fate is not only experienced by him. He mentioned that there was a colleague who was also investigating a major case in KPK but was disabled for failing to pass the TWK assessment.

"There are (medium, red) handle cases (corruption, red) of social assistance, e-KTP cases also have not been clear because related to state losses have not been withdrawn. Of course, other cases are still being pursued", he said.

Previously, the National Insight Test (TWK) was followed by 1,351 KPK employees. Of these, 1,274 were declared eligible.

Meanwhile, 75 employees, including Novel Baswedan, Chairman of KPK employee forum who is also an investigator Yudi Purnomo, Director of Socialization and Anti-Corruption Campaign KPK Giri Suprapdiono was declared ineligible (TMS) and two employees were not present in the interview test.

Furthermore, 75 employees who were declared ineligible were subsequently disabled. This deactivation is based on the Decree of the Kpk Leadership No. 652 of 2021. The letter signed by KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri was set on May 7 and a valid copy was signed by the Head of Human Resources Bureau Yonathan Demme Tangdilintin.

There are four points in the decree. Including, ordering employees who do not qualify to hand over their duties and responsibilities to their superiors directly.

Even so, KPK excused not to deactivate dozens of people. "We can explain that at this time the employee is not disabled because all rights and responsibilities of staffing still apply", KPK Spokesman Ali Fikri told reporters on Tuesday, May 11.

The purpose of the submission of duties and responsibilities as written in the Decree claimed solely for the effectiveness of the implementation of corruption eradication tasks can run.

"The handover of this task is done solely to ensure the effectiveness of the implementation of tasks in the KPK so as not to be constrained and avoid any legal problems related to the handling of ongoing cases", he said.
