Chairperson Of BEM UI In Front Of The Leadership Of The DPR: We Are Sad As If We Will Be Used During The Election Only

Chairman of BEM UI Agus Setiawan expressed his concern and disappointment with members of the DPR during an audience with the leadership of the DPR in the parliament complex.

He felt that the members of the council only needed the people during the momentum of the Legislative Election (Pileg).

This was conveyed by Agus in response to the recent heated national situation after demonstrations in various regions.

Where this action emerged due to an increase in salaries and allowances for members of the DPR and was addressed with the nirempati of a number of councils in the midst of weakened national economic conditions.

"We, as part of a citizen who is actually worried about what kind of economic condition we will be in in the future? It is heard that people are vulnerable to suffering from layoffs, sluggish economies, people's purchasing power has decreased, how come there are representatives of the people who are reportedly increased their allowances," said Agus in front of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Saan Mustopa and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, Wednesday, September 3.

"And when there is this news, there is a symbol of dancing which then our hearts are sad, ladies and gentlemen," he continued.

As a representative of the people, Agus considers that members of the DPR actually seem to dance on the suffering of the people. He also considered that members of the DPR only needed the people during the election but forgot when they were elected.

"We seem to be used during the election moments, with various promises. But when we sit in these delicious chairs, gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen who sit in Parliament seem to forget us," said Agus.

"As part of the people who should be represented in their meeting, and I personally as a generation who continues this struggle," he added.

Agus also expressed his concern to the leadership of the DPR for the narrative of Indonesia's gold 2045 which was heralded by the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka government.

"The narratives that today is for our children and grandchildren will not be achieved in the future. Therefore, I hope that we will recall the mandate of the people, the mandate of the people who are borne by us so that we can really fight for it," he concluded.
