VOI Today: Is Riza Chalid Really the Mastermind Behind the Riotous Demonstrations? Here's What Prabowo's Ministers Have to Say

JAKARTA - The recent demonstrations, which have turned violent and claimed lives, have shaken social and political stability. As of Monday, September 1, clashes between police and demonstrators have not subsided.

A video has gone viral showing police officers attacking the campuses of Bandung Islamic University (Unisba) and Pasundan University (Unpas). Instead of focusing on listening to, reviewing, and implementing the public's demands, the government is busy searching for the masterminds behind these demonstrations.

President Prabowo cited signs of unlawful acts, leading to treason and terrorism. Recently, speculation has emerged that the mastermind is Riza Chalid, an oil businessman currently on the run.

This speculation began with Instagram posts by several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, including Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and Minister of Migrant Worker Protection Abdul Kadir Karding.

Responding to the alleged involvement of Riza Chalid, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that his team would act based on the evidence. The question is, weren't these demonstrations purely motivated by public anger and disappointment with the government?

Was Riza Chalid simply being used as a scapegoat to cover up for others who may already be known to the government? If Riza Chalid was the mastermind behind these demonstrations, why wasn't he arrested immediately? Read more on VOI.id.
