Palestine Welcomes Belgium's Decision To Recognize Its Country At The UN Session
JAKARTA - Palestine welcomes Belgium's decision to recognize the Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly (UN).
Reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot announced that on Tuesday, September 2, his country intends to officially recognize the Palestinian State in an international public session 8-23 September.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through a statement made on social media X, praised Belgium's intention as a "consistent with international law and UN resolution, protecting the two-state solution, and supporting the achievement of peace."
The Palestinian ministry also urged other countries to immediately start this recognition process, intensify real efforts to stop crimes of genocide, expulsion, hunger, and annexation, as well as pave a real political path to resolving the conflict and ending Israel's occupation of the Palestinian State territory.
Belgium's decision to recognize the Palestinian State after a number of other countries such as France, Britain, Canada, and Australia announced similar intentions to recognize Palestine in the upcoming UN session, joining 147 countries that had already done the same.
Belgian Foreign Minister, Prevot also confirmed strict sanctions were being imposed on Israeli authorities.
Israel has killed more than 63,500 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. Israeli military attacks have devastated the enclave, which is now facing the threat of mass hunger.
