Kompolnas Stated Ethical And Criminal Proceedings To 7 Brimob Officers Involved In The Assault On Affan Kurniawan Are Concurrently
JAKARTA - The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) stated that the ethical and criminal proceedings against the seven Brimob (Mobile Brigade) officers involved in the death of online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan will proceed concurrently.
Kompolnas is the external supervisory body involved in the case review process.
"So these two systems are running parallel, so they don't have to wait for each other," Kompolnas Commissioner Choirul Anam told reporters on Tuesday, September 2.
The two processes are running concurrently because the case review process discusses the construction of events leading to the demand for dismissal.
Meanwhile, the National Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) hearing regarding the death of Affan Kurniawan will be held on September 3 and 4.
"The atmosphere was indeed pointing towards the potential for a PTDH (Hospital Dismissal), or in simpler terms, dismissal," he said.
As for the criminal proceedings, the team from the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) is said to have presented the management of the criminal case, the investigation, and so on, as well as recommendations for the initiation of the criminal investigation process.
"Furthermore, because of this decision, I hope the recommendations can be implemented quickly. So, the criminal steps will be taken," said Anam.
According to him, the concurrent ethical and criminal proceedings are the National Police's response to Affan's family's efforts to thoroughly investigate this matter.
The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) emphasized that the National Police will not discriminate in taking action against criminal violations, including against its members.
"We are responding to the family's direct demands, which were conveyed directly to Kompolnas and also to the National Police Chief when he met with the family in person," said Anam.
Online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver Affan Kurniawan was killed after being run over by a tactical vehicle in the Bendungan Hilir area on August 28, 2025.
Seven Brimob officers are being sought in connection with the case: Police Commissioner Kosmas, First Brigadier Rohmat, Second Brigadier M. Rohyani, First Brigadier Danang, First Brigadier Mardin, Baraka Jana Edi, and Baraka Yohanes David.
Of the seven named, two—Police Commissioner Kosmas and Police Brigadier Rohmat—are facing dismissal. Their actions are considered serious violations.
In the series of assaults, Police Commissioner Kosmas was in the front passenger seat, next to the driver. Police Brigadier Rohmat was driving the tactical vehicle.
Meanwhile, the other five Brimob officers are considered moderate violators. They are: Police Inspector M. Rohyani, Police Brigadier Danang, Police Brigadier Mardin, Police Brigadier Jana Edi, and Police Brigadier Yohanes David.
