Memories Of Affan Kurniawan's Death By Holding A Peaceful Action, Ojol Driver: Everything Has Happened

JAKARTA - Thousands of online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) held a peaceful demonstration by distributing roses to the ranks of the TNI and Polri on the south side of the National Monument (Monas) area.

One of the goals of this action was to commemorate the departure of Affan Kurniawan, an ojol driver who was killed by a tactical vehicle (rantis) Brimob Polri.

As a result of this incident, Mako Brimob Kwitang was attacked by the public, especially ojol drivers from Thursday, August 28 night to Saturday, August 30. Many people have expressed anger at the repressive attitude of the police after the death of Affan.

"This action, one of which is a form of our solidarity with Affan. Everything has passed. Everything has happened. The family has forgiven and accepted everything. We will return all legal processes to the government and the authorities," said one of the online motorcycle taxi representatives, Erna at IRTI Monas, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, September 2.

Presiden Prabowo Subianto telah memerintahkan agar kasus Affan Kurinawan diusut hingga tuntas dan transparan, serta pelaku dijerat hukuman sesuai aturan yang berlaku. Erna pun mengamini pernyataan Prabowo.

"The president has also issued instructions that this case will be thoroughly monitored. We from existing online drivers will also see, hear, and will oversee it to completion," he said.

Along with the easing of the situation, Erna hopes that ojol drivers who are angry with the death of Affan will no longer be provoked by actions that lead to riots in the future.

"Hopefully all my friends are online motorcycle taxis who really depend on the application, we want everything to be conducive and return to normal," said Erna.

"Departing from the house until we return home with sustenance for our family, without any obstacles, without any more provocations from irresponsible people out there," he continued.

This afternoon, ojol drivers from various applicator partners began walking out of Monas with each holding rose stalks to circle parts of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.

They also unfurled banners that read "spread a million roses of kindness for love and peace of Beloved Indonesia".

On the side of the road, the TNI and Polri officers are ready to line up to receive the flowers that will be given by ojol drivers. You can see the happy looking faces adorning the faces of the officers. This time, there were no protective vests, helmets, and shields typical of securing the demonstrations they wore.
