Head-to-Head Indonesia U-23 vs Laos U-23: Young Garuda Once Tackled
JAKARTA - The Indonesian U-23 national team will begin its campaign in the 2026 AFC U-23 Championship Qualifiers against Laos U-23.
The 2026 AFC U-23 Championship Qualifiers will take place from September 3-9, 2025, at the Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo, East Java. Indonesia will host Group J, which includes South Korea, Laos, and Macau.
The Indonesian U-23 will face Laos in their first match on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Laos is no stranger to the Garuda Muda, as the two teams have met five times in various competitions.
Indonesia first met Laos in the U-23 age group at the 2003 SEA Games. The Red and White squad narrowly won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Bambang Pamungkas.
The last meeting between the Garuda Muda and Laos was at the 2018 Asian Games, where Indonesia, the host nation, won convincingly with a score of 3-0.
In their previous meetings, the Indonesia U-23 team has only lost once to Laos. That was at the 2009 SEA Games, where they lost 0-2.
This means the Indonesia U-23 team cannot underestimate Laos. They still have the potential to thwart their fellow Southeast Asian opponents.
