NTB Police Detain Women Suspects Of Destruction And Coercion In Land Disputes In Gili Trawangan

The West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda) detained a woman with the initials KM, a suspect in a case of vandalism and coercion with threats of violence in a land ownership dispute in the Gili Trawangan tourist area, North Lombok Regency.

The Director of General Criminal Investigation at the NTB Police, Kombes Syarif Hidayat, confirmed the detention. "Yes, (he has been detained). Later, he will go directly to the Head of Sub-Directorate 3 for complete information," said Syarif through a statement received in Mataram, Antara, Tuesday, September 2.

Head of Sub-Directorate 3 Jatanras Reskrimum Polda NTB Kombes Catur Erwin Setiawan said KM was detained after investigators found elements of crime and strong evidence. The suspect was charged under Article 406 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 368 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

"Detention is carried out for the next 20 days because it is feared that the suspect will commit another crime," he said.

Catur explained that this case stems from the report of MI, the manager of lodging on an area of 3 are in Gili Trawangan. MI signed a lease contract until 2035 with RI, KM's ex-husband, worth Rp360 million. In the agreement, RI guarantees that there will be no disturbances and is willing to provide compensation if problems arise.

MI then renovated the old buildings damaged by the 2018 earthquake at a cost of Rp1.5 billion. Lodging was completed in August 2024. However, not even a month of operation, KM sent a subpoena and claimed land ownership. MI ignored the summons because RI assured that the land was legally controlled.

Tensions peaked on October 11, 2024 when KM came to the location with his attorney and asked to take over the land. KM's messenger damaged the walls, bars, floors, and repainted the MI inn building. Due to the destruction and threats, RI reported KM to the North Lombok Police, while MI reported it to the NTB Police.

"The value of the loss reached Rp1.86 billion from the rental and renovation payments," said MI.

Penyidik Polda NTB membantah adanya kriminalisasi. “Proses penetapan tersangka dan penahanan sesuai aturan hukum,” tegas Catur. Sengketa serupa sebelumnya pernah ditangani Polres Lombok Utara, namun Polda NTB melanjutkan karena merasa yakin dengan alat bukti dan saksi yang ada.

NTB Police investigators have denied any criminalization. "The process of determining suspects and detention is in accordance with the rule of law," said Catur. Similar disputes have previously been handled by the North Lombok Police, but the NTB Police continued because they felt confident in the existing evidence and witnesses.
