Six East Java Regions Devastated, With Losses Reaching IDR 124.25 Billion
SURABAYA – Protests that turned violent in several areas in East Java have caused significant losses. Based on data collected, the total material losses are estimated at IDR 124.25 billion.
The riots occurred in six regions: Surabaya, Malang City, Malang Regency, Kediri City, Kediri Regency, and Sidoarjo. Public facilities and government offices were targeted by the mob, including the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) building, police stations, police posts, and traffic facilities.
In addition to the economic losses, the East Java Regional Police also recorded 580 arrests in connection with the protests. Of that number, 89 are being prosecuted, 12 are still undergoing questioning, and 479 have been released after questioning.
The Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, emphasized that the action was carried out selectively and carefully.
"Anyone proven to have committed vandalism or anarchic crimes will be prosecuted according to the law. Those who have not been proven guilty will be returned to their families or Legal Aid Institute (LBH) counselors," he said.

Surabaya City Police Headquarters
Crime Scene: 18 Police Post, Tegalsari Police Station, Grahadi Building: Of the 288 people detained, 22 were prosecuted, and 266 were sent home.
Malang City Police
Crime Scene: Malang City Police Headquarters, 12 Traffic Posts, Sabhara Post, Traffic Accident Office, Police Post: Of the 61 people detained, 13 were charged with a crime but not detained, and 48 were sent home.
Kediri Regency Police
Crime Scene: Kediri Samsat Office, Simpang 4, Kepung Police Station: Of the 124 people detained, 23 are being processed, 12 are still under investigation, and 89 were sent home.
Malang Regency Police
Crime Scene: Kebonagung Traffic Post, Pakis Aji Police Station, Kepanjen Monitoring Post, Traffic Accident Post: All 13 people detained were questioned but not detained or sent home.
Sidoarjo City Police
Crime Scene: Waru Post: Of the 8 people detained, 2 were questioned but not detained, and 6 were sent home.
