Mauro Zijlstra Receives FC Volendam's Approval to Play for Indonesian National Team

JAKARTA - Mauro Zijlstra has received approval from his club, FC Volendam, to play for the Indonesian National Team. The Dutch club even expressed its support for Zijlstra during this month's FIFA Matchday.

FC Volendam posted their support on the club's official social media accounts. In addition to Zijlstra, other players include Yannick Leliendal, who will represent Suriname, and Ozan Kokcu of Azerbaijan, who will also be appearing on the same matchday.

"Three players on international duty this week. Good luck to Yannick, Ozan, and Mauro," Volendam wrote on Instagram on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Zijlstra is now an Indonesian citizen after taking his oath of office on Friday, August 29, 2025. The 20-year-old's presence could potentially strengthen the Indonesian U-23 National Team.

Because his naturalization was not yet complete by the time the player registration deadline arrived, Zijlstra's chances of representing the Indonesian U-23 national team were dashed.

However, Zijlstra has the opportunity to represent the senior Indonesian national team in the FIFA Matchday in September 2025. The Garuda squad is scheduled to face Chinese Taipei on Friday, September 5, 2025, and Lebanon on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), Surabaya.

Mauro Zijlstra's chances of representing the Indonesian national team in the FIFA Matchday are quite good, as main striker Ole Romeny is currently injured.

After Mauro officially becomes an Indonesian citizen, the Indonesian national team now awaits the swearing-in of Miliano Jonathans, which will take place on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Jakarta.

After the oath of Indonesian citizenship, Miliano will be eligible to represent the Indonesian national team in the second FIFA Matchday match against Lebanon.
