Green Day Mocks Will Smith for Allegedly Using AI to Show Off Tour Success

JAKARTA - Green Day, in a recent post on its official Instagram account, appeared to poke fun at Will Smith, who last week drew social media attention for allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) in a video clip for his US tour.

The California punk rock band uploaded a video clip from their South American tour. The content shows the audience at the stage railing singing along to "Basket Case."

"No need for AI for our audience 😜," Green Day wrote, citing the caption of the post on Monday, September 1.

Some netizens realized the caption's meaning and shared memes of Will Smith crying in the comments section.

"The caption is hilarious. Did Mike (Dirnt) write this?" commented another.

Will Smith had previously been the target of criticism from netizens who suspected he had used AI to generate fan images in a video clip for his successful tour.

The video, shared ahead of the UK leg of the tour, showed a packed crowd at the concert, with fans holding banners and cheering on the rapper.

"My favorite part of this tour is seeing you all up close. Thank you for seeing me too," Smith wrote in the caption of the post.

However, according to NME, some netizens suspected Smith had used AI to generate some of the fan images.

"Half the footage is AI," one user wrote in the comments section.

"Why are there AI people in the crowd? This is embarrassing," said another.

Reddit users have also responded to the video, stating that it is depressing.

"It looks like a very bad upscaling of the image. I thought those were real people who can now see what their melted wax figures look like," they said.
