Public Order and Security Level 1 in NTB Following Riots That Burned Down Regional People's Representative Council Building

NTB - The West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTB) have ordered all levels of government in the districts/cities to implement a high alert status to maintain public order and security (kamtibmas).

Deputy Chief of the NTB Regional Police, Brigadier General Hari Nugroho, stated that the alert status was issued by National Police Headquarters to all regional work units.

"With this alert status, we as police must be responsive," he said in a written statement on September 1, as reported by Antara.

He explained that the implementation of this high alert status was inseparable from the demonstration on Saturday, August 30, which resulted in the NTB Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) building being burned down and most of the inventory in the NTB parliamentary office area being looted.

During the high alert status, the NTB Regional Police ordered all levels to be responsive to any information and movements that could disrupt public order and security.

"When there is information about something, whether it's a crowd or a demonstration, we must be on alert," he said.

Under alert level 1, the police have also deployed security personnel at several vital locations, such as the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) building, government buildings, and shopping centers. Security measures are implemented according to the evolving situation on the ground.

"If there is no information regarding threats or disturbances, the police will only conduct routine activities such as patrols in the area to detect potential vulnerabilities," he said.

Regarding today's demonstrations, which took place in several districts/cities, the police stated that the delivery of aspirations at several locations, such as the East Lombok DPRD and the NTB Governor's Office, proceeded smoothly.

Police officers implemented multi-layered security measures for the demonstrations, with support from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
