Banten Police Chief Affirms Investigating The Burning Case Of Ciceri Police Post, Says There Are Students Participating In The Demonstration Because Of FOMO

SERANG - Banten Regional Police Chief (Kapolda) Brigadier General Hengki confirmed that his party was still investigating the burning of the Ciceri Police Post that occurred during a demonstration in Serang City, last weekend.

"Yes, we are still developing it. We will not tolerate anyone who commits a criminal act," said Hengki in Serang City, Antara, Monday, September 1.

Hengki suspects that the riots were triggered by the party riding the actions of students and the community.

"We are still investigating. Demonstrations should be peaceful, but there should be no intruders who provoke. Aspirations are please conveyed, but it must be clear what is being carried, the number of participants, and what is being demanded so that irresponsible parties are not used," he said.

Regarding the security of the action, Hengki said that as many as 15 people had been arrested by the police, the majority of students. "On the 30th (August) yesterday, 14 people had been sent home. We called their parents and they thanked them. Because many participated in the action were still students, some were even in the 1st grade of high school and junior high school," he said.

The Kapolda emphasized that the role of the family is very important to supervise children so as not to get involved in risky actions.

"That's why the role of parents is very important. Police, TNI, and local governments carry out their duties according to the law. But the most powerful supervision is from parents. Check the cellphones of their children, monitor the association," he added.

He said that some students took part in the action just because of the influence of social media and were afraid of missing out. "Yesterday, we arrested five people, still in junior high and first grade high school. They are ready to fight the officers just because of FOMO, fear of missing out. They feel they have to come so they are considered cool or cool. This is a wrong thought," explained the Kapolda.

Hengki appealed to parents to be more proactive in monitoring their children's activities. "If the child has not returned home, even though it is late, immediately look for, call, call. They should study, not take action," he said.

Previously, the Banten Police secured 15 teenagers during a demonstration in Ciceri, Serang City, Saturday (30/8). They were recorded and given guidance.
