Asked By Sri Mulyani Not Attending The Indonesian Capital Market Stability Press Conference, Airlangga: The Market Is Calm

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto responded to questions regarding the absence of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani at the Indonesian Capital Market Stability Press Conference on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), in the midst of a national demonstration situation.

Airlangga emphasized that market conditions are currently under control, amidst the current national dynamics.

"(Sri Mulyani did not come to the IDX to calm the market?) The market has calmed down," said Airlangga to the media crew, at the IDX Building, Monday, September 1.

Airlangga explained that the movement of the capital market was influenced by two main factors, namely sentiment and economic fundamentals and fundamentally, the Indonesian economy currently has solid resilience.

"From a fundamental point of view, this is important because of course we understand that there are two important things in the capital market besides fundamentals andappropriation. However, it is to be emphasized that basically Indonesia has solid resilience," he said.

According to him, although there are dynamics that are developing today, Indonesia's economic fundamentals are still strong, so the pressure that occurs is expected to be only temporary.

"Regarding the current situation, with solid economic fundamentals, the government believes that the impact of socio-political dynamics that occur on the economy is short-term and the government continues to encourage optimism for the medium and long-term," he said.

Airlangga emphasized that the government also continues to establish active communication with issuers, stock exchange members, and investors to ensure that the investment climate remains conducive and all activities can run according to plan.

"The government is committed to being responsive to what is developing and aspirations for the community through constructive channels and this supports the government to maintain stability and also always pay attention to the aspirations that arise from various community groups," he said.

He appealed to entrepreneurs to remain calm and optimistic and we all have a moral responsibility to maintain the sustainability of the national economy so that job creation continues, existing workers are protected, and the welfare of the community can continue to be improved because it is the government's top priority.

Regarding the demonstrations that have occurred in recent times, Airlangga emphasized that the delivery of aspirations is part of democracy, but still must be carried out in an orderly and peaceful manner.

"Of course we hope that a peaceful and respectful situation will certainly help accelerate economic glory and we all maintain a conducive atmosphere and minimize the impact that arises on the community's economy," he explained.
