Commission I Of The House Of Representatives Holds Closed Meeting With The Ministry Of Defense And The TNI In The DPR Today, Discuss Demonstrations?
JAKARTA - Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives held a closed meeting with the Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto with the chiefs of staff of the force at the DPR Building, today. This meeting was held in the midst of a follow-up action plan that will be held at the DPR building and a number of locations in various regions.
Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR Dave Laksono said today's meeting discussed several topics, one of which was the Ministry of Defense and the TNI budget for 2026. For information, only Commission I of the DPR and the DPR Legislation Body held a meeting today.
"There are several things that will be discussed, but the main topic is the initial discussion of the 2026 budget, where the president has submitted his budget plan for 2026, and also the definitive ceiling of around Rp180 trillion," said Dave at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, September 1.
"And we want to discuss in more detail how modernization and also the increase in TNI capacity in the face of global developments in the future," he continued.
Even so, Dave did not deny that there would be discussions about demonstrations that took place during the past week. Moreover, there was an incident of chaos that caused casualties in the effort to disperse the demonstration at the DPR building on Thursday, August 28.
"We can talk about going there (about the demonstration, but the main topic is about the 2026 budget," said Dave.
Even though it was held behind closed doors, Dave said, the meeting would be opened to the public if there were no sensitive discussions. In accordance with the mandate of the law, the public has the right to receive information from a meeting held by the DPR RI, as well as the right to express their aspirations openly.

"We in the DPR are our mandate and also our responsibility to accept these aspirations. We must hear and know exactly what are the obstacles and problems that occur in society. So that when we are like today meeting with the government we know exactly what we need to discuss. So that we can make policies that are in accordance with the needs of the community," concluded Dave.
