Democrats Wait For Government To Discuss Asset Confiscation Bill

BOGOR - Member of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party faction, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas), emphasized the parliament's commitment to discuss the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU) which is now a public concern.

Ibas said the bill was already included in the DPR's national legislation program (prolegnas). However, he reminded that the formation of laws requires the government's active role.

"In establishing laws, parliament also requires a government that is part of compiling, not only the list of contents, but also completing the law. If the confiscation of assets is deemed necessary in a short time, we in parliament are ready to discuss it," said Ibas in his statement at Puri Cikeas, Bogor, Sunday 31 August.

This Democrat politician also emphasized that even though his faction only had 44 seats, the commitment to fighting for the aspirations of the people was still being carried out. However, decisions must be discussed with all factions of the DPR.

Regarding the recent mass action, Ibas rejected the practice of confiscation of assets directly in the field. According to him, this action cannot be justified even though it is motivated by public disappointment.

"Perlaku terhadap objek vital, umum, maupun pribadi harus dilindungi sesuai hukum. Kemarahan tidak bisa disalurkan dengan cara yang melanggar hukum," tegasnya.

Ibas also expressed his condolences for the victims who fell in the demonstration, including the late Affan Kurniawan, and highlighted the police officers who were victims of terror and persecution.

"Therefore, I support the statement of the President Prabowo Polri, TNI, and officers must protect the public as well as take firm action against violations of the law," he explained.

At the end of his statement, Ibas emphasized that the Democrats were ready to support the discussion of the Asset Confiscation Bill with other factions. "Once again, we are waiting and welcoming if indeed the bill on asset confiscation is considered urgent. Democrats are ready to discuss it," he concluded.
