PBSI Admits Failed To Meet The 2025 BWF World Championship Target
JAKARTA The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) admitted that they failed to meet the target at the 2025 Badminton World Championships (BWF World Championships 2025).
Indonesia closed the trip in this important event with a bronze medal contributed by Putri Kusuma Wardani. This result is far from the PBSI target of targeting one gold medal.
The 23-year-old badminton journey stopped in the semifinals after losing against Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, who came out as champion for the third time in the history of this tournament.
"This result certainly does not match the target of PBSI. However, seeing the progress of young athletes (already) running according to the PBSI program," PBSI wrote in a statement received by the media.

Putri Kusuma Wardani also showed an encouraging track record both in terms of achievement and in terms of the quality of the game against world top players.
Head of the Development and Achievement Division (Head of Binpres) PBSI, Eng Hian, said that Putri is currently in a phase that is so confident in her own game patterns and only needs to increase flight hours.
"For example, like yesterday when facing Akane Yamaguchi. For physical strength and the addition of sharpness of the hitting technique, it will certainly also be part of what will be added," he said.
Alwi Farhan and Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, also including young Indonesian athletes who performed well even though this was a debut appearance at the World Championships.
The two representatives' journey failed in the third round or the last 16. Alwi lost against defending champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand), while Jafar/Felisha were beaten by Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei (Malaysia).
Eng Hian said that the two names above showed significant developments. Despite fighting the world's top players, they can put up a fight.
"However, they still need more competitive experience, besides of course the addition of technique and physical from the results of the match evaluation," said Eng Hian.
The results at the 2025 BWF World Championships made Indonesia fail to end the gold medal drought since Hendra Setiawan / Mohammad Ahsan climbed the highest podium in the 2019 edition.
Indonesian representatives will next face the Asian tour, starting from the Hong Kong Open (9-14 September 2025), then following the China Masters (16-21September 2025), and the Korea Open (23-28 September 2025).
