Chelsea Vs Arsenal: The Blues' Ambitions Secure Champions League Tickets
JAKARTA - Chelsea will be involved in the London derby against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The match was an important step for the Blues to secure a top-four spot.
The Blues moved up to third after a 2-1 away win over Manchester City last weekend, widening their lead over fifth-placed West Ham to six points.
Now, three tough games are ready to go against the Blues. After facing the Gunners, they will face other significant tests against Leicester City (19 May) and Aston Villa (23 May).
On the sidelines, Thiago Silva et al will also face the Foxes in the FA Cup final on 15 May. Then, it will close the season by facing The Citizens in the Champions League final on May 30.
However, before thinking about the two finals above, the Blues should of course focus on the game against Arsenal. To what extent is the readiness and strength of Thomas Tuchel's men? Here we give you the latest news from Chelsea.
Mateo KovacicKovacic is the only Chelsea star to miss the trip to Manchester City due to injury.
The central midfielder, who has performed superbly since Tuchel's arrival, was forced to miss the Blues' midfield due to a hamstring injury. But there is optimism he could return against the Gunners.
Before the game against City, Tuchel admitted that the Blues were "hoping" to get him back for the game against Arsenal.
" (Mateo) Kovacic is absent but we hope to bring him back to Arsenal and then hopefully to Wembley (against Leicester)," Tuchel said on Friday last week.
Andreas Christensen
Christensen limped off at Etihad Stadium in the final minutes of the first half while holding onto his hamstring.
The centre-back, who has also impressed since Tuchel arrived at the club towards the end of January, should be replaced by Kurt Zouma, who helped the Blues to victory.
Even so, Tuchel hopes the defender will be absent in a matter of days, not weeks.
"I hope it's not too bad," Tuchel told Chelsea TV after the game. "It's more or less the same (injury) he suffered a few weeks ago around the Porto game, I think, where we should replace him."
Meanwhile, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount appear to be returning after being rested.
Chelsea versus Arsenal big match airs on Thursday, May 13 at 2.15am. It is broadcast live on Mola TV.
