Firmly, The National Police Chief Ensures That He Will Take Action On The Masses If He Is Desperate To Break Through Mako Brimob

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that his party would take firm action against the masses who tried to break into the Brimob Headquarters (Moko) of the National Police Headquarters, in accordance with the applicable legal corridors.

Listyo's statement was in response to the video broadcast on social media when he gave directions to his staff.

"It's clear that the order. What is clear is that the SOP already exists, the legal rules already exist, of course everything is in the corridor of the rules," Listyo said when met by the media crew after attending the Plenary Cabinet Session at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Sunday.

Although he did not want to elaborate, the National Police Chief emphasized that his orders to the ranks were clear and followed the existing SOPs according to the applicable law.

On the previous occasion, Listyo emphasized that demonstrations were the constitutional rights of citizens, but the implementation must be in accordance with legal provisions as stipulated in Law Number 9 of 1998 concerning Independence Expressing Opinions in Public.

The National Police Chief reminded that the security forces have an obligation to protect every peaceful and orderly action. However, if the demonstration deviates from the rules, then the authorities are authorized to take firm steps.

"As long as it is carried out peacefully, the apparatus must secure it. But if there has been damage or criminal acts, of course there are consequences," he said.

He gave an example of a number of actions in the last two days that turned into riots by burning buildings, public facilities, and attacking headquarters, which were no longer part of conveying aspirations.

The National Police Chief also emphasized that the purpose of organizing demonstrations is not to limit the rights of the community, but to maintain a balance between individual freedom and the public interest.
