Eko Patrio and Uya Kuya's Houses Looted, Hindia and Bernadya: Be Careful in Supporting Looting
JAKARTA - Several big names in the Indonesian music industry, such as Baskara Putra, also known as Hindia, and Bernadya, have once again spoken out about the current state of the country which is not doing well.
As is known, in addition to demonstrations in various regions, the homes of several members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) with celebrity backgrounds—Eko Patrio and Uya Kuya—were looted by hundreds of people.
Regarding the looting that occurred close together on Saturday, August 30th, Baskara and Bernadya took to their Instagram Stories to remind the public to be wary of the many narratives that have emerged and justified it.
"Be careful about supporting looting, or even simply sharing positive sentiments about it online, even if the target is someone you hate," wrote Hindia, which was later reposted by Bernadya.
"The line is very thin between those who are hated and targeted today and those who are innocent in the future," they continued.
The two noted that if looting is allowed to continue, it could lead to people who are truly fighting for their aspirations facing stiff resistance from the authorities.
"Not to mention if this looting and positive sentiment are used as justification for authorities to increase pressure and use violence against residents," he said.
As is known, Eko Patrio and Uya Kuya became the targets of public anger due to their behavior, deemed inappropriate, when they danced during the MPR Annual Session on August 15th.
Furthermore, another member of the House of Representatives (DPR) with an artist background, Nafa Urbach, also came under scrutiny for her controversial comments regarding salary increases and allowances for DPR members.
