Xavi Simons Officially Joins Tottenham Hotspur With A Transfer Value Of IDR 1.1 Trillion And A Five-Year Contract

JAKARTA - The young attacking midfielder RB Leipzig Xavi Simons finally anchored at Tottenham Hotspur with a transfer of 60 million euros and a five-year contract with the option of extending two seasons with the club from North London.

Simons became Spurs' third major signing in attack after they first secured permanent transfers of Mohammed Kudus and Mathies Tel, as well as signed defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha on loan.

Although he only joined Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in January for 50 million euros, reported ANTARA, Saturday, August 30, Simons then entered the sell list after the Bundesliga club only finished seventh in the 2024/2025 season, which was their worst position since promotion to the highest caste in 2016.

The uncertainty in the position of play also made Simons doubtful by a number of major European clubs. In Leipzig, he is more often played as a hybrid attacking midfielder who can play both winger and second striker.

This had made some clubs hesitate to spend large funds. However, Tottenham chose to take risks in order to get one of the most promising young talents in Europe.

Simons himself has a brilliant track record at the academy level. He graduated from La Masia Barcelona, before continuing his career at Paris Saint-Germain and was then loaned to PSV Eindhoven, where his performance stole the show with a score of goals and productive assists.

Thomas Frank's team are indeed looking for a solution to fill the midfield after losing James Maddison due to anterior ligament injury (ACL) and failing to bring in other targets such as Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White.
