TNI Personnel Clean Up Wreckage Of Cars Destroyed By Fire At Jatinegara Metro Police Station
JAKARTA – Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel moved quickly to tow away the wreckage of burned cars during a demonstration in front of the Jatinegara Metro Police Station, East Jakarta.
The evacuation process began on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at noon WIB. The TNI deployed three tow trucks to clear the 14 burned cars on Jalan Matraman Raya, directly across from City Plaza.
According to VOI's observations on the ground, before the TNI personnel towed the wreckage, residents had already dismantled the wreckage. They took even the smallest parts of the cars, including the engines.
The Jatinegara Metro Police Station building was also severely damaged. In addition to the shattered windows, several police operational vehicles were also burned and damaged. Police tape remains at the entrance.
The demonstration in front of the Jatinegara Metro Police Station lasted until the early hours of Saturday, August 30, 2025, WIB. The crowd only dispersed after three tactical vehicles arrived and fired tear gas.
The demonstration was part of a protest following the death of online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan. The 21-year-old's death sparked widespread outrage, leading to demonstrations in several locations across Jakarta.
Affan died after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle during a demonstration in the Pejompongan area of Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on the evening of Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Affan was rushed to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), but his life could not be saved. The resident of Jatipulo, Palmerah, West Jakarta, later died with serious injuries.
In addition to Jakarta, demonstrations also took place in several other major cities in Indonesia. Makassar, South Sulawesi, also claimed many lives.
