Dedi Mulyadi Promises to Give a Home and Foster Affan Kurniawan's Younger Brother

JAKARTA - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi promised to find a home for the family of online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan, who was killed by a Brimob tactical vehicle from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, and to adopt his younger sibling as a foster child.

In a statement from the West Java Provincial Government in Bandung on Friday, Dedi made this statement when he called and expressed his condolences to Erlina, the mother of Affan Kurniawan, who died during a demonstration in Jakarta on the evening of Thursday, August 28.

"I'm sorry, I can only send a representative, and I can't help further," Dedi said, as quoted by Antara on Saturday, August 30.

When Dedi called Affan's mother, he expressed his intention to become a foster father for the deceased's younger sibling, but he would still live with his family.

"He will still live with me, but I would like your permission to adopt the deceased's younger sibling as my foster child, Ma'am," he said.

Dedi also promised to find a home for the deceased's family so they would no longer have to live in boarding houses.

"My staff will handle it there, and then they'll report it to me," said Dedi.

Dedi then apologized for not being able to meet you in person in Jakarta.

"I apologize for not being able to meet you in person, as I'm in West Java. But I pray that you and your husband are healthy and resilient, accepting this tragedy, and I hope what happened to your son is the last of its kind," he said.

It was reported that online motorcycle taxi (ojek) driver Affan Kurniawan (21) died after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle during the riots at the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Thursday night (August 28).

The deceased was the second child and had one older and one younger sibling. Affan and his family reportedly lived on Jalan Blora, Central Jakarta.

The Propam Division (Divpropam) of the National Police stated that seven members of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Satbrimob) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) involved in the incident where a tactical vehicle (rantis) hit an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver were found to have violated the police professional code of ethics.

The seven members are identified as Police Commissioner C, Police Inspector M, Police Brigadier R, Police Brigadier B, Police Brigadier M, Baraka Y, and Baraka J.

The police and President Prabowo Subianto also promised assistance and guarantees of livelihood, including education, for Affan's family.
