Customary Chair Asks Riau Residents Not To Be Provoked, Appreciates The Steps Of The National Police Chief

JAKARTA - The General Chairperson of the Daily Leadership Council (DPH) of the Riau Malay Traditional Institute (LAMR) of Riau Province, Datuk Seri Haji Taufik Ikram Jamil, appreciated the quick steps taken by the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo who immediately went to the victim's family after the unfortunate incident occurred.

During the visit, the National Police Chief apologized profusely and promised to thoroughly investigate this case in an open and accountable manner.

"We give high appreciation to the National Police Chief who has shown concern by visiting the victim's family and apologizing directly. LAMR also supports his commitment to investigate this case transparently," said Taufik, Friday, August 29.

LAMR also appealed to the public not to be provoked by issues that can cloud the atmosphere and damage the brotherhood of fellow nation's children.

"Let us maintain the calm and integrity of brotherhood, while putting full trust that law enforcement will run according to the rules," said Taufik Ikram.

On the other hand, Taufik also expressed his deep condolences for the death of Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle taxi driver who died during a demonstration in front of the DPR RI Building on August 28, 2025.

"On behalf of the organization, we express our deepest condolences. May the deceased be accepted by Allah SWT, and the family left behind will have patience," said Taufik.

As previously reported, Affan Kurniawan died after being run over by a Brimob rantis in the Pejompongan area, Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 28.

The seven Brimob members who were in the rantis car each had the initials Kompol C, Aipda M, Bripka R, Brigadier B, Bripda M, Baraka Y, and Baraka J.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said he would handle all problems one by one following the chaos in the demonstration in front of the DPR building which resulted in the incident of an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol) being run over by a police tactical vehicle. "Later we will close it. What is clear is that we will handle everything one by one," said Sigit.

Regarding the problem of the death of an ojol driver who was run over by a rantis vehicle, said Sigit, his party will follow up on the incident well.

Likewise, he said, the problem of chaos that occurred at the Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters Kwitang, everything will be handled, so that everything can be maintained.

"I think the process will always be there. What is clear is that we will continue to evaluate it," he said
