Political Party Leaders Urged To Take Care Of People Who Talk Carelessly
JAKARTA - The civil society coalition asked political party leaders to take action against their subordinates who spoke carelessly. This pressure also applies to the DPR so that they impose sanctions on members.
This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) Muhammad Isnur along with hundreds of non-governmental organizations including Indonesia Corruption Watch to Commissions for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
"Leaders of political parties and institutions of the DPR RI take tough action and impose harsh sanctions on members of the DPR RI who apply inappropriately and trigger people's anger," Isnur said in a written statement, Friday, August 29.
Isnur said there were a number of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives who were also elite political parties who were considered to have sparked the anger of the people.
They are members of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the NasDem faction, Ahmad Sahroni and Nafa Urbach, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Adies Kadir, who is a cadre of the Golkar Party; Eko Hendro Purnomo, Sigit Purnomo Syamsuddin Said, and Surya Utama who are members of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PAN Faction; Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction Rahayu Saraswati; and Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDIP faction, Deddy Sitorus.
In addition, President Prabowo Subianto and the DPR were asked to meet the demands of the demonstrators.
"Starting from overcoming the job crisis, canceling the RKHUAP, stopping all national strategic programs and government programs that damage the environment and rob the living rights of indigenous peoples," said Isnur.
Then the government together with the DPR were asked to immediately discuss the Asset Confiscation Bill.
"By prioritizing meaningful public participation," said Isnur.

In addition, the government is also asked to stop budget management that is not in accordance with effective and efficient principles. "And (prelimining, red) fair tax policies," he said.
Meanwhile, after a lot of demonstrations, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, then spoke via uploading a video on the official Instagram account @dpr_ri. He apologized to the public.
"On behalf of all members and leaders of the DPR RI, we apologize if we are not fully able to carry out our duties as representatives of the people. The DPR RI will continue to improve in hearing the aspirations of the people," said Puan in the video.
"We realize because the people's voice is the pulse of the nation's life," continued the chairman of the PDIP DPP.
Puan also said that the DPR would oversee Affan Kurniawan's legal process.
Affan was killed in a demonstration that ended in chaos on Thursday, August 28 evening. He was run over by a passing Barracuda Brimob tactical vehicle to disperse the crowd in the Pejompongan area, Jakarta.
"We promise to oversee the legal process thoroughly and ensure that the voices of the people are no longer silenced by violence," said Puan in a video uploaded by the DPR's official account, Friday, August 29.
Puan on that occasion also expressed her condolences for the death of Affan. "Hopefully the deceased will have the best place by God and his family will be given strength," he concluded.
