Puan Maharani Speaks Up About Affan Kurniawan's Death: We Promise To Guard The Legal Process

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, confirmed that the legal process for Affan Kurniawan will continue to be guarded. This incident sparked major protests in a number of areas, especially in Jakarta.

Affan was killed in a demonstration that ended in chaos on Thursday, August 28 evening. He was run over by a passing Barracuda Brimob tactical vehicle to disperse the crowd in the Pejompongan area, Jakarta.

"We promise to oversee the legal process thoroughly," said Puan in a video uploaded to the official DPR RI account, Friday, August 29.

Puan on that occasion also expressed her condolences for the death of Affan.

"Hopefully the deceased will have the best place by God and his family will be given strength," he said.

In addition, Puan ensured that the DPR would ensure that the voices of the people were no longer silenced by means of violence.

"We also apologize if the DPR RI has not fully met the expectations of the people. In the future, we are committed to being more open, more heard, and more present for the community," said Puan.

"We realize because the people's voice is the pulse of the nation's life," continued the chairman of the PDIP DPP.

As previously reported, seven policemen were arrested in connection with the random incident that hit this ojol driver. They are Kompol C, Aipda M, Bripka R, Briptu D, Bripda M, Baraka Y, and Baraka J.

As a result of the incident, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has also apologized and admitted that he regretted the incident.

In addition to the ojol driver who was hit by the police to death, it is known that there was also an online motorcycle taxi driver who was injured. The driver was named Moh Umar Amarudin.

Meanwhile, Affan was treated at the Jakarta RSCM after being run over by the Brimob rantis. However, his life could not be saved and was buried on Friday afternoon, August 29.
