Polda Selidiki Penyebab Kematian Warga Saat Aksi Anarchis Di Manokwari

MANOKWARI - The West Papua Regional Police (Polda) formed a team to investigate the cause of a resident who was reported to have died when the protests led to anarchism in Manokwari, Thursday (28/8) night.

West Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir said thorough investigative steps intend to reveal the facts about the cause of Septinus Sesa's death.

"So that there is no confusion of information that mentions the cause of one resident's death due to being hit by tear gas," Johnny said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 29.

He said the investigation team involved personnel from the West Papua Regional Police for Medicine and Health (Biddokes) and other units related to the problem.

The entire investigation process prioritizes the principles of professionalism and transparency, so that the final results can be legally accounted to the public, especially the families of the victims.

"We have visited the victim's family to convey our condolences. We also offer an autopsy, but the victim's family doesn't want to because of one thing and another," said Johnny.

He explained that the anarchic action that occurred in Manokwari was the effect of the transfer of four political prisoners (tapol) from Sorong City, Southwest Papua, to Makassar, South Sulawesi.

Police personnel have been deployed to a number of points while increasing surveillance patrols to anticipate follow-up actions that have the potential to disrupt security stability in Manokwari.

"The situation is relatively safe under control. However, security is still being increased so that there will be no further turmoil," said the Kapolda.

West Papua Governor Dominggus Mandacan appealed to all people to maintain regional conduciveness, and not to be easily provoked by issues that have the potential to cause disturbances.

Regional security stability is a shared responsibility for all components of society, especially in responding to the socio-political dynamics that occur in Sorong, Southwest Papua.

"I, as governor and Chief of the Arfak Big Tribe, urge all elements to be responsible for maintaining security so that it remains conducive," said Dominggus.

According to him, public dissatisfaction with government policies does not have to be responded to by carrying out anarchic actions, because every aspiration can be channeled through a legitimate mechanism.

The government does not limit the right of the people to express their aspirations, but this must of course be in accordance with the provisions and applicable laws and regulations.

"The government does not prohibit demonstrations, but there is a mechanism. It is not allowed to take anarchic actions," he said.
