Family Demands Justice For Affan Kurniawan: Who Gives Instructions Must Be Punished Independently

JAKARTA - Affan Kurniawan's family, an online motorcycle taxi driver who was run over by a Rantis Brimob during a chaotic demonstration in Jakarta, asked for his relative's death to be thoroughly investigated.

Ira, Affan's cousin, said that the deceased went to work as usual on the day of the incident. "He gave permission to pull the motorcycle taxi as usual until the afternoon. Usually his father also looks for ojol, but it's not as good as him. If he doesn't achieve the target, he doesn't go home," said Ira, quoted from Kompas Live, Friday, August 29.

The family only learned about the sad news from fellow online motorcycle taxi drivers.

"Initially we didn't believe it. Where the information was run over, what car, who was carrying it, we don't know yet. Ojol who gave the news came to Grandma's house because on the Affan ID card the address was there," said Ira.

According to Ira, Affan's aunt then looked for direct information at Pelni Hospital, where the victim's body was taken.

"Last night, Thursday, the bodies arrived. Those who came to mourn took turns, didn't stop. His father was quite tired because the process was until 8 pm, after Maghrib we immediately tested it," he said.

Keluarga besar berharap kematian Affan diusut tuntas dan ada pihak yang bertanggung jawab.

"Kami ingin adik saya dapat keadilan. Siapa pun yang mengemudi atau yang memberi instruksi harus dihukum setimpal," tegas Ira.

The extended family hopes that Affan's death will be thoroughly investigated and there will be responsible parties.

"We want my sister to get justice. Anyone who drives or gives instructions must be punished accordingly," said Ira.
