ASN Select WFH During Demonstration, Minister Of PANRB: Authority Of Each Ministry And Institution

JAKARTA - Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Rini Widyantini said that the implementation of a work from home (WFH) system for state civil servants (ASN) is entirely under the authority of staffing officials (PPK) in each ministry and institution.

This is in response to demonstrations that have occurred since yesterday until today, August 29, at a number of points in Jakarta.

"When it comes to WFH, it is the authority of the staffing officials of each minister or head of institution. So it is permissible if there is a WFH," he said when contacted by VOI, Friday.

Rini added that his party did not conduct special monitoring regarding which ministries or institutions implemented WFH. "I do not monitor (Which ministries and institutions are WFH) because it is the authority of the head of the agency," he said.

Thus, the decision to implement WFH for ASN is flexible, adapting the needs and operational conditions of each agency.

Action Down To The Streets By Students

A number of ministries have taken flexible policies related to the ASN work system following the demonstration that was held again in Jakarta, today, Friday.

The Ministry of Trade and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs is known to implement a work from home (WFH) system for employees whose offices are located around points where the mass of action is crossing. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Manpower chose to allow employees to return early to anticipate potential congestion and disruption of transportation access.

Today's demonstration was held by the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board Alliance (BEM SI) which demanded reform within the National Police. They protested the repressive actions of the apparatus in handling the demonstration on Thursday, August 28, which resulted in the death toll.

An online motorcycle taxi driver, Affan Kurniawan, reportedly died after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle during a clash between students and officials. This incident sparked public anger while strengthening student solidarity to take to the streets again.

The gathering point for the action was centered in front of the Polda Metro Jaya Headquarters, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Senayan, South Jakarta. The crowd carried the slogan "Ask Brimob" as a form of pressure for the authorities to take responsibility for the incident that killed Affan.
