Series Of Tear Gas Shots Near Mobile Brigade Corps Headquarters Left Residents Short Of Breath And Unconscious

JAKARTA - Dozens of people who took to the streets to protest in front of the Kwitang Mobile Brigade Headquarters in Central Jakarta collapsed after inhaling tear gas canisters fired by Brimob officers into the crowd on Friday afternoon, August 29th.

Brimob officers fired tear gas canisters dozens of times into the crowd on Jalan Kramat Kwitang, Senen.

The large amount of tear gas caused the crowd to break up and scatter. The panic caused dozens of people to collapse after inhaling the tear gas.

Fortunately, the unconscious people were evacuated by the motorcycle taxi drivers who were participating in the demonstration. The victims were evacuated using several motorcycle taxi drivers' motorcycles.

VOI observed that during the two rounds of tear gas canisters fired into the crowd, no ambulances were on standby.

This action was a demonstration of public sympathy for the death of the motorcycle taxi driver, Affan.

However, around 3:15 PM WIB, an ambulance arrived on Jalan Kramat Kwitang to evacuate the victims.

Not only that, but until 3:40 PM WIB, victims falling due to tear gas continued to be evacuated by motorcycle taxi drivers.

"Move, move!" shouted the motorcycle drivers evacuating the victims while honking their horns.

In addition to the protesters affected by the tear gas, several street vendors were also affected.

"Oh my God, my eyes and chest are really sore, sir. The tear gas fumes are everywhere," said Casmini, a bottled beverage vendor.

Seeing the increasingly tense situation, Casmini then decided to close her stall and go home.

"Enough, enough. This tear gas is dangerous. I just want to close and go home," she said.

Just to let you know, the action that occurred in the Kwitang area, Senen District, Central Jakarta was the aftermath of the death of ojol driver Affan who was run over by a Brimob Rantis car in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.
