Anger Breaks Out At Polda Metro Jaya, Masses Shout 'Killer...Killer' Into Police Car
JAKARTA - The demonstration in front of Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Friday, August 29, was chaotic.
Masses dominated by students damaged police cars when a group of police vehicles passed by the scene.
The riots were sparked by mass anger over the repressive actions of Brimob members who had previously run over an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol), Affan Kurniawan, to death.
Initially, the masses gathered on the side of Jalan Sudirman while doing a speech. As about five police cars in a group passed by, the crowd shouted the word ' KILLer' repeatedly. The front police car was even intercepted by the crowd.
"Killer... killer!" shouted the student who surrounded the vehicle.
Tensions escalated as a number of people began hitting and kicking the white-blue police car.
From a distance, it was seen that the car window was broken and the body was supporting. The police group chose to withdraw and enter the Polda Metro Jaya complex to avoid widespread unrest.
