Kostrad Supports Capital Security, Kostrad Commander: Their Task Is Humanist
JAKARTA - Kostrad Commander Lt. Gen. Mohammad Fadjar said his troops were tasked with acting humanely when they were deployed to support Jakarta's security.
The situation in a number of areas in the capital city tensed after a demonstration in front of the MPR/DPR/DPR RI Building on Thursday turned into mass clashes from various circles with security forces.
The death of online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle in the Pejompongan area, Central Jakarta, Thursday night sparked mass outrage.
The crowd, which was dominated by Ojol drivers, then raided the Mako Brimob Polda Metro Jaya in the Kwitang area since Thursday night. The crowd continued to survive before finally disbanding on Friday at around 10:30 WIB, after the Indonesian Army and Navy Kostrad personnel were deployed to the location.
Assistant Intelligence Kaskostrad Brigadier General Muhamamd Nas also mediated directly in negotiations between the masses and the security forces.
The presence of TNI personnel, including Kostrad and Marines in securing the situation in Jakarta Today received a warm welcome from the masses. The masses also listened to the advice of TNI soldiers to be calm and not anarchic
"Alhamdulillah, the public understands the situation," Pangkostrad told VOI.id via text message, when confirmed regarding the presence of his troops to defuse tensions.
"Their job is to act humanely to help relieve people's emotions," he added.
Separately, Kostrad Information Chief Colonel Inf Choiril Anwar said Kostrad forces were deployed to help defuse the situation.
"Kostrad is also placed in several locations to help defuse the situation," he explained in a short message.
"Apart from the Makostrad, Kostrad units around Jakarta were also deployed, which had been alerted by the previous Kostrad," he added.
