DKI Provincial Government Denies Allegations Of Deliberate Pumps Let Floods Be Turned Off During Demo Clashes August 28

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Office, Ika Agustin Ningrum, denied allegations that the DKI Provincial Government had turned off the flood control pump on Thursday, August 28 evening.

When the demonstration ended in chaos at a number of points last night, Jakarta was hit by heavy rain. Several roads were inundated. There was a narrative on social media that the pump was deliberately not operated so that Jakarta would flood and the demonstrators dispersed.

Ika emphasized that all pumps in Jakarta operate normally, both stationary pumps and mobile pumps at inundation-prone points function properly.

"We make sure all flood control pumps function normally and none of them are turned off when it rains in Jakarta," Ika told reporters, Friday, August 29.

In addition, Ika emphasized that his party also did not make any modifications to the weather so that it would rain on Thursday, August 28. Ika ensured that the information circulating on social media was not true.

The latest weather modification operation (OMC) in Jakarta was carried out on August 17, 2025, by the DKI Jakarta BPBD in collaboration with BMKG and the Indonesian Air Force.

"We urge the public not to be easily influenced by information whose sources are not clear, and always refer to the official channels of the DKI Provincial Government and the Natural Resources Service," explained Ika.

He added that the DKI Jakarta SDA Office continues to coordinate with various relevant agencies to ensure that the flood control system runs optimally.

"We are committed to providing the best service for the safety, security and comfort of all Jakarta residents," he concluded.
