Online Motorcycle Taxi Driver Being Run Over Triggers Clashes in Jakarta, West Java Police Ensure Area is Conducive

JAKARTA - The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) ensured that the security situation in the region remains conducive after clashes during the August 28th demonstration in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building escalated into chaos in several locations in Jakarta until the morning of August 29th.

One of the triggers for this morning's unrest was the death of an online motorcycle taxi driver who was run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle securing the demonstration last night in Jakarta.

Head of Public Relations for the West Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, stated that handling the incident in Jakarta is the responsibility of the authorities and will be carried out transparently.

"Students, schoolchildren, online motorcycle taxi drivers, and the general public are asked not to be influenced by rumors that are not necessarily true. Entrust the handling of the matter to law enforcement," Hendra said in Bandung on Friday.

Hendra urged the public to remain focused on their daily activities and not spread unverified information.

"Let's work together to keep West Java safe and peaceful," Hendra said.

On Thursday, August 29th, demonstrations by labor groups were held in three different locations in West Java, under conducive conditions.

"The labor movement's aspirations in three locations in West Java were carried out well, smoothly, and safely. The public is welcome to return to their normal activities," said Hendra.

Hendra urged the public not to be easily provoked by the various issues that have arisen.

"We express our gratitude for the support from community elements who have helped create a conducive public order and security situation," he said.
