2025 BWF World Championships: Alwi Loses Dramatically In 76 Minutes

JAKARTA Alwi Farhan had to settle for returning home in the round of 16 of the 2025 BWF World Championships (BWF World Championships 2025) after losing to Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

Alwi's move stopped after he was dramatically defeated by three games 18-21, 21-18, and 20-22 in a 76-minute match at the Adidas Arena, Paris, France, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, WIB night.

Facing the defending champion and the third seed did not make Alwi afraid. In the first game, the 2023 junior world champion appeared clinically to lead 3-0.

Kunlavut managed to equalize it, but Alwi immediately added one point to take the lead. Even though he immediately turned ahead with three numbers afterwards, Kunlavut's road remained slow.

After leading two points at the interval, Kunlavut stepped on the gas to keep the score 13-9. Alwi then chased and doubled the score, but instead missed the moment at the end.

In the second game, Kunlavut seemed to be running smoothly after he managed to lead 7-1. However, Alwi gave a tough fight and then equalized the score 8-8.

The pursuit of the numbers went dramatic after that until Kunlavut led 18-17. However, this is where Alwi can score four consecutive points to force the match to continue into the third game.

Alwi was also forced to rise from behind in the third game to equalize the score 4-4. Even so, Kunlavut could turn ahead and lead with four points taken a break.

Kunlavut kept trying to keep his distance after that with a 15-10 advantage, but Alwi managed to score six consecutive points to turn around leading the Thai men's singles.

The two then took turns scoring points at these tense points. Unfortunately, after the 20-20 position, Kunlavut was able to add two points in a row to win.

Alwi's defeat left the Indonesian men's singles depending on Jonatan Christie, who qualified for the last eight after beating Lee Cheuk Yiu from Hong Kong.
