Israel Has Not Responded To Ceasefire Efforts In Gaza

JAKARTA - Efforts to reach a ceasefire will continue, although Israel has not responded to ceasefire attempts with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

"The mediation efforts of Qatar and Egypt have not stopped, although unfortunately the lack of response from the Israeli side and Israel insists on its stance," Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty told a news conference on the ceasefire in Gaza. August 28.

In line with his Qatar counterpart, he added, "We will continue to pressure and stay in touch with regional and international parties so that they pressure Israel to accept a ceasefire proposal, which is based on an initiative proposed by American mediator Witkoff."

Earlier, Qatar mediators said on Tuesday, Israel was not willing to consider a ceasefire proposal for Hamas-approved Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government has yet to respond to the proposal, which states that about half of the remaining 50 hostages will be released during the 60-day ceasefire. Instead, Israel continues its plans to expand military operations in Gaza.

"The decision now rests with Israel, which does not appear willing to reach an agreement," Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari told a news conference.

"We call on the international community to pressure Israel," Al Ansari added, adding Israel's escalation on the ground would not produce positive results.
