Alexander Isak Enters Sweden's National Team Amid Liverpool Transfer Talks

JAKARTA - Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been included in the Sweden National Team (Timnas) squad for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the European Zone against Slovenia and Kosovo next month.

Isak has yet to appear for Newcastle this season amid interest from Liverpool, who according to an ESPN report his offer was rejected in early August 2025. He has trained alone amid the ongoing transfers.

"I'm very happy that Alexander Isak wants to be in the squad, he's a great player. The situation he's facing is not perfect and he hasn't trained with the team yet."

"However, he is a player who can determine the outcome of the match. He wants to be part of our squad. The World Cup is important for Alexander Isak," said Sweden coach Jon Dahl Tomasson.

The 25-year-old released a statement last week stating that he had lost confidence in Newcastle because of the broken promises the club responded to by insisting that his terms of departure had not been met.

A few days later, Newcastle's manager, Eddie Howe, voiced his disappointment over the publicly exposed situation and said he preferred if everything was resolved behind closed doors.

Isak missed the 2-3 defeat to Liverpool in the English League on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, with a report a day later claiming he still wanted to leave the club even though the Newcastle owner had visited the house to reconcile the situation.
