Foreign Minister Sugiono: Indonesia-Australia Relations At A Very Good Point
JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that the proactive efforts of the governments and the support of the people of each country are factors that have made the bilateral relationship between the Republic of Indonesia and Australia so strong.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Sugiono during a visit to Canberra, Australia, where he met with Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the sidelines of the Indonesia-Australia 2+2 Meeting on Thursday.
The bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Wong took place before the Indonesia-Australia 2+2 Meeting at the Australian Parliament Building. On this occasion, the two countries' top diplomats discussed the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Action Plan 2025-2029, including in the areas of trade and investment, development cooperation, people-to-people relations, and partnerships in ASEAN and the Pacific region.
Following the Indonesia-Australia 2+2 Meeting, Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and conveyed the progress of bilateral relations between the two countries.
"The relationship between Indonesia and Australia is currently at an excellent level. This is due to the shared interests of both countries, the proactive efforts of both governments, and public support in various cooperation sectors," explained Foreign Minister Sugiono in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, August 28.
Previously, Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie discussed various strategic issues related to political cooperation, defense and security, and geostrategic developments in the Pacific and Middle East regions during a 2+2 meeting with Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Wong.
In particular, during this meeting, Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed Australia's decision to recognize the state of Palestine, which is scheduled to be presented at the UN General Assembly in September.
