Words Become Reality, President Prabowo: I'm Horrified by My Own Words

TANGERANG - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto admitted he didn't expect his statement at the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Annual Session on August 15th about his commitment to indiscriminate law enforcement to be immediately proven in practice.

At the time, the Head of State emphasized that he would not protect members of the Gerindra Party who were caught in legal cases. However, a few days after the speech, a Gerindra Party member was actually arrested by authorities, even though the person in question had not yet gone through the full cadre process.

"I also sometimes dread my remarks at the MPR on August 15th. Even if a Gerindra member violated the law, I would not protect them. But a few days later, there was a Gerindra member. He was a member, not yet a cadre," Prabowo said in his opening speech for the Apkasi Autonomy Expo 2025 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, as reported by Antara on Thursday, August 28th.

Although he did not mention any names, the President considered the person caught in the legal case to be quite interesting, but possibly a mistake. He regretted the incident because the person concerned seemed oblivious to his family while being handcuffed and wearing an orange vest.

Previously, former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer, also a member of the Gerindra Party, was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) on suspicion of extortion related to the processing of K3 certificates.

On that occasion, President Prabowo also reminded regional heads to always uphold integrity in their leadership. According to him, history proves that a country will not achieve prosperity if led by a corrupt government.

"We have been Indonesians for a long time. Regardless of which party we belong to, we must have the courage to correct ourselves," Prabowo emphasized.

Head The state emphasizes that law enforcement is a non-negotiable obligation, and every state official, down to the village head level, must uphold the people's trust by leading in a clean and fair manner.
