Not The Cost Center, BSSN Emphasizes The Importance Of Cyber Security Investment In Various Sectors

JAKARTA - The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) symbolically handed over the CSIRT registration certificate (Computer Security Incident Response Team) to ITSEC, for the formation of ITSEC CSIRT, which was formed in collaboration between BSSN and ITSEC.

The formation of CSIRT reflects the active role of the private sector in strengthening the national cyber defense system and affirming ITSEC's commitment to preparedness in dealing with digital incidents.

"We hope that industries, including ITSEC, can cooperate with the government to prevent cyber attacks and incidents in Indonesia," said Deputy for Cybersecurity and Crypto for the BSSN Economy, Slamet Aji Pamungkas at the ITSEC: Cybersecurity Summit 2025 event in Jakarta.

Selain itu, Slamet juga menegaskan bahwa perlindungan terhadap infrastruktur kritis merupakan prioritas bersama yang membutuhkan sinergi menyeluruh dari seluruh lapisan, termasuk industri dan masyarakat.

"We hope that cybersecurity is not only ignored after the incident, but cybersecurity has been implemented since we designed a system, both application, hardware and software," he said.

He encouraged various sectors in Indonesia, including the government, to raise awareness that cybersecurity is an investment, not just a cost center.

According to him, currently there are still many digital infrastructure sectors except for finance and banking which consider cybersecurity not fundamental and require large investments.

"The simple example is that if we have a shoe factory that can produce 100 pairs of shoes in one month. If I have one security guard, then I add two more security guards, the production does not increase. So it is considered what to own a security guard? Even though we forget, that if there are no security guards, then if the production machine is stolen, we can't even produce shoes at all," he explained.

He also said that this momentum is expected to be a significant follow-up step for Indonesia in strengthening the national cyber security system as a whole.
