Two Farmers Carrying Firearms on a Motorcycle in the Early Morning Were Arrested in East OKU, South Sumatra
JAKARTA - The East Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Police in South Sumatra have confiscated two illegal firearms from two local farmers.
The East OKU Police Chief, AKBP Adik Listiyono, stated that the suspects, identified as DN (34) and WN (40), were apprehended on Wednesday, August 27, at around 1:45 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.
The two suspects, residents of Jati Mulyo Village and Riang Bandung Village, were arrested while riding a motorcycle along Jalan Desa Bangsa Negara, Belitang Madang Raya District, East OKU Regency.
"The two suspects were apprehended by our officers who were conducting a night patrol near the crime scene," he said in Martapura on Thursday, as reported by Antara.
The suspects had thrown the illegal firearms into the bushes, but thanks to the officers' alertness, evidence was recovered and the suspects were immediately apprehended.
The evidence seized from the perpetrator, DN, included a black short-barreled homemade firearm, three rounds of ammunition, and one shell casing, suspected to be an FN.
Meanwhile, the perpetrator, WN, also seized a silver short-barreled homemade firearm, four rounds of ammunition, and one shell casing.
Both perpetrators will be charged under Article 1 paragraph (1) of Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 concerning the possession of illegal firearms, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
"We are committed to eradicating the circulation of illegal firearms in the jurisdiction of the East OKU Police. Anyone found in possession will be prosecuted according to applicable law," the Police Chief emphasized.
