Tests For Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Begin

JAKARTA The test for Gregoria Mariska Tunjung at the 2025 World Championships (BWF World Championships 2025) will only begin in the round of 16 when she meets Sim Yu-jin from South Korea.

Gregoria has just passed the second round of the tournament after defeating Julie Dawall Jakobsen in two straight games 21-17 and 21-8 at Adidas Arena, Paris, France, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Although it only took 32 minutes to reach the round of 16, Gregoria went through a difficult match in the first game against Julie from Denmark.

After a comfortable 6-2 lead, Gragoria lost five points in a row. He was also three points behind in the interval and had to get involved chasing numbers afterwards.

The situation only turned around after he spawned three consecutive points while trailing 13-14. Julie tried to keep up the fight after that, but to no avail.

"In the second game, it was relatively more comfortable for me because his position also won the wind. So, to attack him, it was more difficult for the opponent," said Gregoria after the match.

Gregoria also actually missed the first number in the second game. However, he quickly replied with four points in a row and appeared strong afterwards.

"In the future, I have to reduce my own mistakes a lot and react more quickly when the opponent changes the pattern of play or speed," said Gregoria.

Gregoria previously also went through the first half easily with only two games against Petra Maixnerova from the Czech Republic. However, in the last 16 against Sim it is likely not as easy as the two matches.

Sim Yu-jin came to this tournament as the 12th seed. Although the 1-6 win-loss record against Gregoria, the semifinalist of the 2025 Taipei Open is likely to be a hassle.

In the last clash at All England 2025 in March, Sim was able to fight Gregoria even though in the end he had to give up two straight games.

If successful in passing Sim, Gregoria's journey is likely much tougher in the quarter-finals as she can meet world number one An Se-young, who he has so far never beaten from 11 clashes.
