House Of Representatives Commission VIII: Minister Of Religion No Longer Cares About Hajj And Umrah, Head Of BP Haji Automatically Becomes Minister

JAKARTA - Commission VIII of the DPR RI held a Hajj evaluation meeting in 2025 with the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar and the Head of the Hajj Organizing Agency, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf at the Parliament Complex this afternoon.

During the meeting, the Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR Marwan Dasopang said that the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) no longer handled the pilgrimage and Umrah after the Hajj Law was passed.

He said the new Hajj Law made the implementation of the Hajj service transferred from the Ministry of Religion to the Ministry of Hajj.

"The Minister of Religion is no longer in charge of hajj matters, really being a scholar, taking care of the interests of religious communities. So it is appropriate to become an angurutta Kiai Haji Nasaruddin Umar," said Marwan Dasopang at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 27.

As is known, the DPR RI has ratified the revision of the Law on the Third Amendment to Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Hajj and Umrah into law. Thus, the Hajj Organizing Body (BP) is now the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

Marwan also said that the Head of the Haji Mochamad Organizing Agency (BP) Irfan Yusuf (Gus Irfan) would automatically become Minister of Hajj and Umrah. He said the regulation was already registered in the subtance of the law.

Thus, said Marwan, the Head of BP will change the mention to become Minister of Hajj and Umrah.

"Of course later Gus Irfan, yes, no longer the Head of the Agency, will become Minister of Hajj. And the articles about it have been decided, maybe it's not 60 days before I forget that the Secretary General will participate in formulating when to convey the answers, sir, if I'm not mistaken, at least 30 days or how many I forgot," said Marwan.

Marwan added, in the meeting held in accordance with the mandate of Article 43 paragraph (2) and Article 51 paragraph (1) of Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Hajj and Umrah, that the Minister submits reports on evaluation and accountability as well as financial reports to the President and DPR RI no later than 60 days after the implementation of the pilgrimage ends.

"That is the mandate in the 2019 Hajj Law which is still valid during the 2025 worship," he said.
