PGN Will Supply Biomethane For The Singapore Green Data Center
JAKARTA - The National Gas Company Tbk (PGAS) is developing a biomethane business through the processing of palm oil waste (POME).
Development is carried out, including by establishing partnerships, one of which is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singapore Pte. Ltd. (NDSG), a subsidiary of PT Telkom Data Ecosystem (NeutraDC) which is engaged in the data center business sector, including in Singapore, part of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.
"PGN's collaboration with NDSG shows great potential for the development of biomethane distribution to a wider scale, as well as opening up opportunities for the creation of a sustainable clean energy ecosystem and supporting national energy transition targets," said PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development, Rosa Permata Sari, quoted Wednesday, August 27.
In this collaboration, PGN will supply biomethane as a form of gas-based renewable energy utilization to support the operation of the green data center to be managed by the NDSG. Sendang Praptomo as CEO of NDSG explained that the supply of renewable energy is a crucial factor to maintain sustainability and competitiveness in the development of the data center business in Singapore.

Biomethane development is part of the implementation of one of PGN's strategies, namely Step Out. Through this strategy, PGN focuses on exploring low-carbon businesses by optimizing assets, resources, and synergy with other Pertamina Subholdings.
"Indonesia as an agricultural country with abundant natural resources has great potential to develop sustainable biomethane to boost the economy and clean energy transition. As a quick win renewable gas, biomethane is also seen as a future solution that can reduce carbon emissions," added Rosa.
PGN targets the distribution of biomethane to customers in the West Java region by utilizing existing infrastructure starting in 2027. Through the use of biomethane, PGN invites all related partners to contribute to achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target. PGN believes this collaboration can be a joint strategic step in presenting sustainable value through the use of green energy.
