Google Translate Launches Live Translate Features And AI-Based Language Training

JAKARTA - Google is launching a series of features supported by new advanced artificial intelligence (AI) on Google Translate, to help users learn foreign languages even better.

First, by utilizing AI, Google presents the ability of real-time two-way conversational skills with audio and on-screen translation via the Translate app, which is available in more than 70 languages including Arabic, French, Hindi, Korean, Spanish and Tamil.

"This technology uses advanced speech and speech recognition models, which are trained to separate voice from voice in the background," Google wrote in an announcement on its official blog.

To try it, open the Translate app on Android or iOS, tap 'Live translate', select the language you want to translate, then start talking. You will hear the translation and transcript of the conversation in both languages.

Next, to train confidence in speaking foreign languages, Google introduces a new language practice feature designed to help you achieve learning goals.

"Whether you're a beginner who just wants to try a conversation or a advanced speaker who wants to hone his vocabulary before traveling, Translate can now make training sessions listen and talk according to your needs," explained the search giant.

Google says that this feature was developed with learning experts in the field of language acquisition, as well as tracking your daily developments in order to communicate more confidently.

This interactive exercise is created automatically and adjusts to the level of the user's ability. Just tap 'practice' in the application, determine the level of your capabilities and goals, then Translate will create a special scenario.

You can listen to conversations and then mark the words you hear to train understanding, or practice talking with the available instructions when needed.

This new feature will start rolling out this week in beta, for the Translate app on iOS and Android. Initial versions are available for English speakers who want to practice Spanish and French.
