JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts thick cloudy weather and rain has the potential to be experienced by big cities in Indonesia today, Wednesday, August 27.

BMKG forecaster Raeni Chindi was quoted by ANTARA as saying cloudy weather has the potential to occur in Bengkulu and Palembang areas as well as thick cloudy in Banda Aceh, Jambi, and Bandar Lampung.

Meanwhile, he continued, there is still the potential for light rain in the day that occurs in areas in Pekanbaru, Padang, and Pangkal Pinang, as well as rain accompanied by lightning in the Medan and Tanjung Pinang areas.

"For Java Island, it is predicted that it will be cloudy for the city of Jakarta, forecasted to be thick cloudy for Serang, Bandung, and Surabaya. Then light rain for Semarang and Yogyakarta," he said.

For the Bali and Nusa Tenggara regions, he continued, BMKG predicts the potential for light rain in the Denpasar area accompanied by thick cloudy weather in Mataram and Kupang.

Raeni explained that on the island of Kalimantan only Pontianak city is predicted to experience thick cloudy weather. Meanwhile, light rain has the potential to fall in Tanjung Selor and Palangkaraya as well as rain accompanied by lightning in Banjarmasin and Samarinda.

For the Sulawesi, Manado, Makassar, Gorontalo, and Kendari areas, it is predicted that the BMKG will experience thick cloudy conditions today. Accompanied by the potential for light rain in Mamuju and Palu.

In eastern Indonesia, he said, BMKG warned of the possibility of light rain in Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura and Merauke as well as moderate rain in Jayawijaya.
